Since having ra I have had my wedding ring size go up two times.....now my finger swelling has decreased and had my ring sent away to be decreased last month. Ring back and £47.00 lighter (hubby paid) my ring is still loose and comes off. The trouble with ra is swelling to joints! I tried an insert in the ring, but didn't feel right. My hubby said no to paying out more on the ring! Anyone else have ring sizing problems with ra? Jane Xxx

Hi Jane, I have problems with my rings although I haven't bothered to get them re sized. I couldn't wear my wedding ring for some time and have to wear it on my right hand a lot now. I think most people have problems as I remember reading some blogs on here before. You could always put your ring on a chain round your neck, I did that too for a while. Mary

hello jane, my husband lost his wedding ring, having tried to do so unsuccessfully many times over the years, not long before I was diagnosed. We decided to get two more rings (silver this time round and incidentally he's lost this one too!!) Just the other day I came across my original wedding ring and it's a squeeze to even get it on my little finger - my second wedding ring is still okay. It's shame they're not elasticated! .....eve

Hi Jane, I haven't worn my wedding ring for a few years now because of the swelling. I have had it enlarged once but it now sits in a wee box on the dresser (my wife does understand). Elasticated wedding rings what a wonderful idea!

Me too!! I had my Wedding rings re-sized the other year, but the swelling has gone down & now they are far too loose I hate not wearing them. But I know as soon as I re-size them again the same thing will happen. Lou xx I love people who can make you smile even when you do not feel like smiling. x

hello everyone. Thought about wearing elastic through ring, but I'd be devistated if it got lost. I could do what celebs do and have a tattoo on my ring finger, but I have enough pain and needles with ra. Also may regret the tattoo! My daughter said mummy if you don't wear the ring then you are not married to my daddy anymore! Sweet. Swelling has gone down, for now. Perhaps I should ask my hubbie for a lovely bracelet (elastic) I could wear all the time....but maybe not because its money! Someone will invent something suitable for ring wearers for us all, I don't mean turning the ring into a nose bull ring! Jane Xxx

I had my wedding ring resized too. Then it gets too big!! My husband bought me a narrower white gold one, as my original white gold one is very wide so costs more to resize. I now have a set that is a little big, but when my fingers swell, they fit perfectly!! Luckily they don't slip off, so at the moment I'm happy!!! I just don't feel right without them on BARBARA

If my ring doesn't fit, I don't wear it. I kind of use it as my unofficial DAS - the further I can get it down my finger the lower the disease activity!!

I had to take me wedding ring off and didn't wear it for over a year, I was waiting for it to go down so I could get it back on. None of my other rings would go on my fingers. I think it must of raised a few eyebrows when we booked into caravan sites as Mr and Mrs and husband wearing a ring and me not, wondered if they thought I was his bit on the side I did eventually have my wedding ring made bigger, it cost about £16, so I felt married again. Now that Enbrel is doing its magic most of my fingers are back to their original size, my wedding ring is too big. My engagement ring keeps it in place and last year I was given some finger splints to wear, one on my wedding ring finger and one on my index finger of my left hand (I will do a thread about that soon). So the rings are kept firmly in place. I once read somewhere about a woman who had several wedding rings and she changed them to match her outfits. Call me old fashioned or not, but my ring was blessed when we got married and it is special to me. This problem with rings not fitting seems to be a common problem with RA, I think we have to be grateful if we don't end up having to have rings cut off our fingers. Paula x

I've just had my engagement and wedding rings resized for my birthday. (I'm 37 on Thursday! Eeeeek!) I thought it was about my weight, but now weigh less than I did before I had Bernice and yet they still don't fit. Had a cheapy QVC ring for when my ring finger was big and wore the others round my neck chain But now I've got them made bigger I love wearing them again how to be a velvet bulldoser

I am so glad this has been posted. I thought it was just my weight causing problems with rings not fitting. Last year my wedding ring, engagement ring or eternity ring would not fit. I asked for a quote to get them re-sized but was not happy with the price (over £150) so left them. Now my engagement ring and eternity ring fit most days but alas not my wedding ring. As Meriel said I use it as my DAS score now. If rings are fitting I am on a good day. Jenni_b - Happy Birthday for Thursday Jackie xx

I have my engagement ring a couple of sizes smaller than my wedding ring. It means that the engagement ring fits fine when my hands are not swollen (and holds the wedding ring in place) and my wedding ring fits when they are swollen, it's only the engagement ring which I can't wear which I don't mind. This solution would depend on difference between swollen and not swollen though.

Hi all - I haven't been able to wear my rings for several years, but in the past few months I find I can get them on and off reasonably well, but it's uncomfortable if I wear them overnight. I like Sarah's idea, but maybe I'll do as Jenni said, and get an extra large one for chubby-hand days!! Cheers - Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
